2011 Annual Report
Six Essential Questions

Since 2002, TEAM Schools has been preparing Newark's students for success in college and life beyond. Today, 83% of alumni have matriculated to college and over 1,500 students are in our four schools preparing to follow in their footsteps.

This year’s TEAM annual report tracks KIPP’s “Six Essential Questions” – carefully examining how our schools are doing on everything from serving kids who need us,
to supporting them to and through college.

Please help us continue to build on our success to date – enjoy our annual report

At the core of what we do each day is the academic progress and achievement of our students.  Our students are making exceptional progress academically and closing the achievement gap in middle and high school and beginning to reverse it in elementary:

Elementary: 90% of our students enter on a “Pre-PreK” level. Our oldest class finished first grade last spring with 90% of students reading on or above grade level.

Middle: Our students enter on average two to three years behind in reading and one to two years behind in math and close those gaps by eighth grade (because our elementary school is only in its third year, our middle school students enter from schools other than ours).

High School: Our students are outperforming Newark and catching the state in English; 96% of our high school students were accepted to college in 2011; 92% have matriculated so far.

As you’ll see in Mia’s video, she’s made major strides and gone from reading books that were for much younger kids to feeling great about reading.  “Now I love reading because I’m in my own world and I feel like I‘m in the story,” Mia says.
