TEAMwork Award Winner

Laszlo de Simon // Room 9 // Sharing and Systems Manager

In the words of his nominators…

The winner of the TEAMwork Award is Sharing and Systems Manager Laszlo de Simon from Room 9. In another large batch of nominations from across the network this year, several nominators called Laszlo the “consummate team member” and said that, “there is no one in the network who is more willing to go out of his way to help his co-workers than Laz.” Whether it’s learning PowerSchool over the summer to fill a need on our data team, coaching basketball at TEAM, or dropping everything when someone stops him in the hallway with a complicated request, Laz never says “that’s not my job,” though it often isn’t. As one colleague said, “Laz never loses patience or his positive attitude, even when we give him plenty of reason to do so.” In Room 9’s mid-year evaluation, more people agreed that they’ve been supported in PowerSchool and KIPP: Share than agreed on any other question, and the trust he’s built across the network is an incredible example for all. One nominator even said they have seen Laz pull all-nighters to help ensure projects get done on time, even when they’re not his projects, and this selflessness permeates everything he does.

TEAMwork (teem•wurk) [n.]

At TEAM Schools, we believe that TEAM always beats individual, and that the combined efforts of a team of smart people will always be more effective than any single person will be. We have each others’ backs, even when it is difficult to do so, and when a teammate needs help, we give it. We do not operate as islands, but as a high-functioning and integrated team working to the benefit of all of our kids. For us, the benefit of the team always trumps our individual job descriptions.
