Enrollment Process

As a free public school, TEAM Charter Schools do not discriminate in admissions. All applicants’ names are placed on a list for admission to either TEAM Academy or Rise Academy. Both are KIPP Schools with very similar methods and are two separate campuses of the TEAM Academy Charter School. If more students have applied for admission than there are seats to accommodate them, a lottery is held and students are chosen randomly. All applicants have an equal chance of being selected. However, New Jersey law does provide for immediate siblings of current students to receive priority in filling open seats if an application is received before the lottery. By submitting this application, your child’s name will be placed on our waiting list for either TEAM Academy Middle School or our new middle school Rise Academy.

Residency Requirement

We are required to give preference to Newark residents. If your child’s name is selected from the waiting list, you will be required to submit proof of residency before your child is enrolled. Also, if you will be moving to Newark, or if your child currently attends a private school, you will first need to complete the transfer paperwork to Newark Public Schools and then transfer to either Rise Academy or TEAM Academy. This does not mean that your child must attend another Newark Public School, just that NPS must have official record of your Newark residency for us to receive state funds for your child.
