About Applying

About One Newark Enrolls:
  • What is One Newark Enrolls?

One Newark Enrolls is a system of choice where all families can access great schools for their children, regardless of the school’s status as district or charter. The system will be available to any family wishing to enroll their child in a new school for the upcoming year. Families may rank up to eight school choices – both district and charter – on a single application. They will then receive a single offer to attend the best possible school given their selections. Ranking TEAM Charter Schools as your #1 choice will increase your child’s chance of being offered a seat a TEAM school.

  • Who is running the enrollment system?

The Newark Public Schools Office of Student Enrollment is managing the technological platform, school communications and training, parent communications, and student-school matching for the enrollment system. For example, Newark Public Schools is developing the Online Enrollment Center, leading parent focus groups, coordinating school fairs, training school staff, and running the matching software. TEAM Charter Schools will no longer operate its own application or lottery.

  • How is this process different from what’s happened in the past?

In the past, families had to navigate multiple applications, competing timelines, and dual processes during regular enrollment seasons. One Newark Enrolls streamlines this process by combining applications, timelines, and processes into a single system that all participating schools follow.

  • Which students will participate in this process?

This process is open to all students who wish to apply to Kindergarten through 12th grade at TEAM Charter Schools for the upcoming school year. Students who wish to remain in their current school do not need to submit an application.

  • How do I apply to TEAM Charter Schools?

Families may apply by completing a paper application or using the new Online Enrollment Center at www.newarkenrolls.org. The application will be open from January 6 to February 14. Families can pick up a copy of the paper application at any participating school or at a number of community locations, and can return the application to any school.

  • How will students be matched to schools?

After the application closes, automated computer software will match each student with the best possible school based on the families’ choices and the policies of the enrollment system. This computer software is used in several other districts with centralized enrollment systems, and has been customized for Newark’s needs. Families and students will learn of their matches in April 2014.

  • What if I already submitted a TEAM Charter Schools Enrollment Application?

The One Newark Enrolls system requires that you complete a new application even if you have applied to our schools in the past.

  • What if my child is on the waitlist?

You must apply again using the One Newark Enrolls system by February 14, 2014.
