What you'll find at Rise
Rise students have the opportunity to participate in over 30 extra-curricular activities, from grappling to cycling club to book club, and so many more.
Most subjects have two teachers in each classroom with additional learning specialists as well. This allows students to learn each lesson in a way that's tailored to their individual needs.
Reading is a fun competition between students. We track number of words read and celebrate major milestones when students reach one, five, and 20 million words read. This is one of the many academic results measured in great detail.
The Rise name
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
"Rise Academy" derives from the Maya Angelou poem, "Still I Rise."
Fifth graders use touch screen devices to track progress on their reading speed and comprehension.
Students enter Rise Academy in a variety of places. They all leave on the path to college. Over 50% of our kids enter Rise Academy below grade level. They typically leave with their peers across the state, not just in Newark. To see more about our academic growth, click here »
Students start math class with a quick quiz about the day's lesson which tells the teachers how well each kid understands the content. Since there are multiple teachers in each room, students get the lesson tailored to their needs.
Posters that celebrate student progress and achievement line every wall of Rise Academy. Gamifying tasks like reading and doing math makes learning a fun and friendly competition.
Khan Academy Math Bar
The math bar is set up with laptops where kids practice on Khan Academy. Their results are posted on a large monitor so that they can watch progress against themselves and peers.
Developing the whole child
At Rise Academy, students learn one of their biggest lessons on the first day of summer school: everything is earned. Students start out earning their chair and uniform, but quickly move to earning a seat on trips around the area, clubs and activities, and other perks, for doing the right thing and meeting expectations. Students continue to earn things throughout the year with the ultimate prize being a seat on one of the four end-of-year trips: DC, Utah, California, or the Costa Rica.

The teachers are always willing to stay after and help. It's great that someone besides me wants to push my child to be the best they can be.
Awesome..The staff is excellent and they take pride in the education of each child.
I would highly recommend anyone putting their child here.
